From Our Missions Pastor

Christmas is almost here! I hope you’re using our 12 Days of Invites tool to help get folks connected to Christ at Christmas Eve (who may not be willing to come to church any other time)! If you haven’t started thinking about Christmas Eve yet, take a look here to see when all of our services will be.

I would like to add another challenge to your plate this Christmas. In addition to the “Spend Less – Give More” challenge we make as part of #AfricaAdvent, I’d like for you to consider going to a Christmas Eve service outside of our ‘prime hours.’ If you read the eLetter, then you clearly have some connection to the church. For you who are connected, going to an ‘off prime’ service is a simple act of evangelism. A tiny sacrifice by you and your people could make room. Take a good look at Sunday morning December 23 (which will be the Christmas Eve Service) or the 2:30, 3:30, of 4:00 p.m. hours. You’ll never have an easier way to help someone who is not connected to church have a great experience!

Another great way to serve this Christmas is through our Africa Advent Offerings. We have been focusing on our “Africa Projects” in weeks one and two of Advent (Bikes, Bibles, Buildings, and a home for street kids). This week Africa Advent will be focused on Crosspoint’s Hurricane Michael Relief Efforts.

We know that God has called us to be involved with our neighbors to the east LONG TERM! I have been amazed by the ways Crosspoint has stepped up to the plate in these first few months and I can’t wait to see what God will do with us when we start our new push in the new year. This Africa Advent offering is different than the money we have given to UMCOR of the Conference. We love and trust those partners, and we’re glad they’re out there doing good. But this offering will go directly to Crosspoint’s relief efforts.

We will continue to take trips to the affected areas (see schedule and instructions in the “Mission” tab.) We will continue to look for ways to be involved with housing solutions and opportunities to be part of the long-haul of rebuilding. And we will continue to support our partners who are doing great work every day on the ground in Panama City. One highlight has been our deep friendship with Lynn Haven United Methodist Church. You may have heard that we already supplied them with a tent to worship in when they lost their building. We plan to go further and deeper in our relationship with them in the new year, as they continue to connect people to Christ and do great relief work on a regular basis!

I can tell you this, friends, at Crosspoint we feel the same way today as we did the day the storm hit. This is our call, and we’re not moving until the work is done! Giving to this week’s Africa Advent offering is a way for you to help us continue to do long-term good!

Mission of the Week
Long term relief efforts for our neighbors in the east are our highest calling right now. We were built for such a time as this. We are thinking and praying through the ‘next phase’ of our plans, as we assess the situation on the ground. But if the past is precedent, God will continually provide us with meaningful ways to engage with our brothers and sisters. You can look forward to more trips, more focus on rebuilding, more support of our church partners, and a whole lot more Spirit inspired “God Moments.”
On Tuesday, January 15 at the Naval Aviation Museum, enjoy the big band sounds of the Glenn Miller Band. We will have dinner at Cheddars in route. Departing at 3:15 p.m. Cost: $35 and does not include dinner. Sign up by Monday, January 7, by contacting Barbara Wilder,, 678-4411, ext. 123.

Check the December brochure for this month’s activities.

Hurricane Relief
The Long Haul Continues:
Here we are looking at the year end, with 10 organized trips under our belt and a steady, thoughtful, prayerful focus on being long-term partners to our friends in the East. Crosspoint has absolutely knocked it out of the park in the way we have responded to this storm – YOU have knocked it out of the park. Emails, plans, and opportunities to give mean nothing without the people of the church stepping up and being the church.

We are succeeding because of you – No Coal for any of you this year!

Final week of weekly Hurricane Michael Relief Trips for 2018:
This week we had a lot of major developments in regards to our “Toy Distribution Week Plans.” Crosspoint was incredibly generous, and totally answered the call to provide gifts for children of all ages! With the local Christmas parade scheduled for Saturday December 15, and the racks overflowing with gifts, we moved the weekly trip up to Tuesday, December 12. We had so many more people show up than we expected, and we were able to get all the gifts delivered. Gifts were delivered to Marianna and Panama City for foster and adoptive families. Gifts were distributed through our friends at Northstar Church to various local outlets. Gifts were also delivered to our local Christmas Store here in Niceville. Your response has been amazing, and a true blessing to all who are touched by your generosity.

Stay tuned for the next phase of Crosspoint’s Hurricane Michael Relief – coming in 2019.

God bless you all, and thanks for staying on board long-term!
